Byszantine pattern sketch

Moresque Mosaic

According to The Grammar of Ornament, the current pattern I'm working on is from a castle in Sammezzano in Tuscany. That castle was a Moorish wonderland! It is not finished, so I'm putting up progress jpgs.

Medieval Border and Corner 2

This was my first attempt, which I painted in watercolor, but it didn't work very well with some other elements.

Otaheite Cloth from United Service Museum

Starting small and simple. I have this book called "The Grammar of Ornament" by Owen Jones. First published in 1856, it is a collection of more than 2,350 classic patterns (that's what it says on the cover). For my work, I had an opportunity to work on Medieval style borders, title treatments etc. It was real fun adapting some of these elements to the Illustrator.

I've decided to adapt most of the patterns in this book to Illustrator, just as a fun and relaxing way to spend my free time.
